BLUES END WHEAT KINGS STREAK
Tyson Miazga's goal with 1:30 remaining in overtime capped a Porcupine Blue rally and ended the Kelvington Wheat Kings' perfect season with a 3-2 win on Saturday night. Colton Leblanc and Ryan Grona scored third period goals for the Blues to erase a 2-0 deficit for the Blues. Sean Patrick and Ryan Mottram scored for the Wheat Kings, who see their 13 game winning streak to begin the season come to an end.
The streak hit 13 on Friday night, as Greg Cayen's shot with only 2:43 remaining just barely snuck through Seth Lennea and gave the Wheat Kings a 4-3 victory over the Canora Cobras. Cole Melrose, Sean Patrick, and Patrick Keller scored second period goals for the Wheat Kings, who erased a 2-0 Cobra lead. Kyle Severson had 2 goals for the Cobras, but then accumulated 36 minutes in penalties. Dawson Ramsey had the other Cobra goal.
The North East Lakers are making a late push to get into the playoffs. Jake Hagenese and Jesse Straightnose each scored twice as the Lakers outlasted the Canora Cobras 7-6 in overtime. Todd Arsenie, Devan Ashdown, and Lane Ralph scored singles. Riley Friday and Scott Effa each scored twice for the Cobras. Dawson Ramsey and Chad Keshane added singles.
The Kelvington Wheat Kings continue to roll, picking up two more victories on the weekend and running their season record to a perfect 12-0. On Friday night, the Wheat Kings beat the Canora Cobras 9-4 and then on Saturday, they picked up a 6-1 win over Foam Lake.
On Friday, the Wheat Kings got a complete team effort, as they got goals from nine different goal scorers - Jared Boyes, Dan Wytrykusz, Ryan Mottram, Scott Standish, Stephen Standish, John McCoshen, Lance Holowaty, Mason Nedjelski, and Logan Boyes. Chris Cochrane, Scott Effa, Kody Rock, and Riley Friday replied for the Cobras.
On Saturday, Matt Melrose led the way with 2 goals for the Wheat Kings. Dan Wytrykusz, Jared Boyes, Logan Boyes, and John McCoshen added singles. Graham Farrell had the lone Flyer goal.
The second place Porcupine Blues kept pace with the league leaders, picking up two victories of their own - 6-3 over Foam Lake on Friday and 5-1 over Canora on Saturday.
Ryan Grona had two goals on Friday night for the Blues. Braden Messer, Brian Farley, Alex Anderson, and Brody Wearing had singles. Justin Skolney, Graham Farrell, and Cam Green had the Flyer goals.
On Saturday, it was Brian Farley who led the Blues, as he had a hat trick. Ryan Grona and Tyson Miazga had singles. Deven Severson had the lone Cobra goal.
